Connecticut’s Gubernatorial Race Starts in Earnest Today

Governor Rell announced yesterday that she would not be seeking re-election. Many at the capitol had predicted that the Governor would not run again in 2010 but the news was still had the feeling of surprise. Connecticut’s Governor had been through a cancer scare, has grandchildren to spend time with and has recently been the subject of an ethics investigation - all things that could lead a candidate to bow out of a race. Now the question is what will Connecticut voters do?

It’s been a difficult year for Connecticut, it’s legislature and citizens. We’ve had the worst budget battle in state history and a recession still grips the state. What will happen in the voting booth come next November? Will voters look to endorse a Democratic Governor after so many years? Who will sit in the Governor’s office next year?
