The Office of State Ethics Citizen’s Board Chairman, Kenneth Bernhard, resigned today after it was revealed that he made contributions to the campaigns of Governor Rell and two other republican candidates in 2008 agains the rules of the agency. You can read more about it in Jon Lender’s article. Of course the OSE will proceed with its investigation and probable prosecution of wrongdoing and in all likelihood a fine will be imposed. No one misses the irony of the situation, that the head of the ethics watchdog agency failed to meet the standards set by that same agency. For those in the regulated community who jump through hoops to meet the reporting requirements on a monthly basis, this irony is not really funny. It cannot be fun for the OSE either.
