Mark Sneider blogs passionately in this recent posting on Social Media Today about the importance of social media in the ad agency world. Many of his points apply to the political grassroots campaign as well. As he points out, those who haven’t fully embraced these tools are being left behind. As I see it, old school politicians and organizations that aren’t on the bus yet are going to find themselves walking while everyone else is on a jet plane to the voting public.
Mark makes an excellent argument for the benefits of social media that applies directly to the political realm. He writes:
What are the benefits of Social Media?
- It is the greatest professional enrichment tool that I have ever used. It keeps me current, connected and informed.
- It is the best tool for agency branding that I’ve worked with. It simplifies the branding process for agencies and allows for engagement with their potential clients to test and hone their brand’s appeal.
- It is a great new business tool that produces a pipeline of inbound leads and networking opportunities with an agency’s best prospective clients. Social media greatly expands personal networks. It is networking on steroids. Extremely efficient.

For the organization or politician seeking to disseminate a message, social media keeps them informed about the public sentiment, hones their message, delivers it to specific audiences and allows for that message to be spread through personal networks. A message sent via personal network, a trusted source, is likely to be more readily accepted than one delivered by a direct mail piece.

Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,
A definite great read…:)
