There are two more days left in the 2010 legislative session and the Minority leaders in the Senate continue to hold several important ethics bills hostage. As we wrote a few weeks ago here on this blog, they are using the same tactic they employed last year - an amendment calling for the establishment of a bipartisan ethics panel - to keep the Majority Democrats from calling any of the bills up for a vote. While this is simple parlimentary strategy, the upshot is that some good legislation is being squelched. One bill in particular contains compromise language on the definition of lobbying that would make following the rules, and enforcing them, much clearer. But this is how you pressure the leaders to take up your issue. Let’s hope they reach some agreement before the clock runs out at midnight on Wedneday.
